Holding our tongues

I have let this little blog die over the last year because I didn't have the interest in writing and it had become "just another thing to do."   Lately I have found a new interest in writing, so I will give it another shot, though with my schedule, I am not sure how often it will be.

Lately, I have been doing a lot of self-reflection and seeking God.  I try to consult Him everyday for guidance and revelation.  Like most people, my life is inordinately stressful, and I hate that.  Why does it have to be that way?   I told someone recently that it seems we are the rats on the proverbial wheel and we just keep spinning, spinning, and spinning, and getting nowhere.  There has to be more, and so I am seeking Him for that "more".

One of the byproducts of that stressful life is complaining, which is rampant in my circle.  Proverbs 10:19 tells us that "Where there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is wise."  In my supplemental reading I have encountered, "Never pass up an opportunity to keep your mouth shut," and this one has gone around for years: "Keep your mouth shut and show your good sense."

All this brings me to this question:  is it wrong of us to "vent" to another person, say a best friend or a spouse?  Isn't that what spouses are for (as an example)?  Or, should we solely spill our guts to the One who already reads our minds, knows our hearts?

Resurrection

I have been cancer-free for nearly six years.  As often happens with cancer survivors, a symptom returns, and that has happened in my case.  I am not terribly concerned because it could be other thi gs, but I am going to have it checked and try not to let worry overtake me.

DIY Project: Kitchen Tiles

I have long wanted to try my hand at tiling my kitchen over the stove and sink, but I was always scared to do so.  I wish I had plunged in sooner.  Armed with a $30 credit from Home Depot, I picked out tile squares and the grout and matting the salesman directed me to.  For $51, here is what I was able to accomplish.

Here is my ugly backsplash above the stove:  a white metal sheet.

Here is what I was able to do in about an hour:

And, at the end of two hours:  this---I had bought 6 12x12 tile squares and had enough left over to do this 
ugly, white wall behind the sink.

I still have matting and grout left if I want to tile something else.

Cats on Tuesday

This is a new milestone, but it is one that I thought might happen.  Snowflake, on the left, is very aloof and arrogant; she does not associate with the other 5 cats.......normally.  I noticed the last few times she and Humpty Dumpty were snuggling with me, she let him sniff her and lick her ear.  Yesterday, this is what happened.  I don't know how  long it will last, but ain't young love grand?

Five Years--Cancer Free

It occurred to me today that it is my 5th anniversary of   being cancer-free.  The time has really flown by.  You can read more about that here.  I am so thankful for each day as a life-threatening diagnosis gives you
perspective as to what is truly important.  Cherish the people in your life and don't ignore your body's warning signs.

I don't know if I have posted a picture of my Humpty loving Momma.  Whenever I am on the couch, this is his position.  It doesn't matter how often I get up, he is like a boomerang.

I missed my boy one day recently and found him in a basket in the spare bedroom.....chilling.

No, I would not trade him for the world.
Normally, this is how it is for me when I'm on the couch:  both Humpty and Snowflake vie for my attention.  There is enough love to go around.

Below:  Snowflake seems to be saying, "Momma, Miles took my chair.  Make him move."  Of course, I don't play favorites, so each must fend for him or herself.

Below:  Miles has a stuffed cat he likes to lie on.  Don't ask me if he thinks it's real.  He spent half an hour one night washing it, and I tried telling him it was not Minnie, but he wasn't convinced.
