Cats on Tuesday

Cats on Tuesday is a bunch of cat lovers who write about their cats once a week, on Tuesdays.  Go here for more cat tales:  http://www.gattinamycats.blogspot.com/.
I thought I would start with WHY I love cats so much.  It's my mother's fault, as I have readily told her, to her chuckling reply.  When I was 12, my 9 year-old poodle died.  She said no more dogs because they were too confining.  My grandmother's barn cat was getting ready to have kittens, and Mother said I could have the pick of the litter.  Here she is:

So, I got Priscilla Mae (PRISSY) when I was 12; I had to put her to sleep when I was 31 due to cancer.  Since I got a couple of new cats the last few months of her life (the ex's cats she didn't like), she went to live with my parents.  Dad gave up his recliner for her.  That was "her spot."  She was my first great cat love.  Then, when Prissy was about 4, this one came to us:

This is my sister-in-law's rendention of Fluffy Marie.  She gave it to me the Christmas after Fluffy died.  I cried like a baby.  When Prissy was 4, Fluffy was a baby stray whose mother brought her over our fence and put under Dad's boat.  When Mother saw her fluffy self, she said we had to keep her.  She lived peacefully with Prissy for 12 years.  She is the only cat who ever LOVED a bath and a blowdry styling.  When she was 12, I came home to find her ill under my bed.  Upon taking her an hour away to the emergency vet clinic, I learned she was paralyzed from the midback down.  Either a bloodclot or a jump had injured her.  I was devastated.  She and Prissy are buried in my parents' backyard, and Dad made headstones for them from concrete.  Can you tell I am Daddy's girl???

Ok...On to more pleasant pictures:  My Lovey:

Lovey had been wheezing this weekend, so I took him to the vet after work today.  He believes he has allergies.  Lovey got a Prednazone (spelling?) shot and has a follow-up in two weeks.  He is 1 year, and 4 months old. This was his old vet I took him to, so he had his records.

Matthew's Monday

At my parents' house Matthew has 3 rooms, a suite if you will.  He has his bedroom, a bathroom, and a TV room, complete with recliner.  These rooms are not all connected, but he has "his" end of the hallway.  It is a major production when he packs because one suitcase is strictly for his gaming systems and all the associated paraphenalia.

Menu for the Week

My problem in spending is the grocery store.  I absolutely LOVE a good deal, and I can't seem to pass them up.  As a result, I end up with a stockpile of food.  This is what we are planning for this week, most of which is from my stockpile.

  • Sunday night:  Gorton's fish, rice, green beans, salad
  • Monday night: Panko-encrusted chicken, herb roasted potatoes, beans
  • Tuesday night:  Enchiladas using lean beef I just bought
  • Wednesday: Chicken and mac and cheese, green beans
  • Thursday night:  Spaghetti from the freeer since we'll be late getting home
  • Friday night:  Hot dogs and french fries, salad
  • Saturday night:  Fish and chips, salad

Show and Tell Friday

Today I am showing you a new acquisition.  Last weekend I went to a local church bazaar and found these.  Every year a lady makes a limited number of church choir cats, and nonsidering I am a cat lover, I simply HAD to have them.

They are wearing their choir robes, crosses, and carrying Methodist hymnals.  I got a grey one in honor of Lovey and a white one in honor of Snowflake.  They didn't have any Minnie or Miles' colors.

Cats on Tuesday

Cats on Tuesday is a bunch of cat lovers who blog about their adorable feline kids once a week. Go to http://www.gattinamycats.blogspot.com/ for more cat tales.

I wish you could see the red laser light. That's what Minnie is fascinated with. When I got her from the shelter, they told me she loved the laser light. In this picture Miles hasn't seen it yet.

Here Snowflake contemplates Miles "in jail." In reality, it is my son's old baby gate that I put up to keep Dog out of my room, the cats' room where their food is. Otherwise, they would never have anything to eat! Just so you know, they don't jump over it; they go in between the gate and the door facing. Miles occasionally has trouble because he is ...well..."thick" as the vet said.

One of Lovey's favorite spots is inside Matthew's bathroom door.

Again, I wish you could see the laser light. This is what Lovey is grabbing for and what the gang is watching.

My Princess Snowflake has shown no interest in the laser light. It means she would have to perhaps get dirty. Here she is in one of her favorite spots----a basket above the kitchen cabinets over the sink.

I hope you enjoyed my babies' pictures. They were especially active this past week.

Meal Plan for the Week

We are eating from the pantry/freezer this week to try to clear some things out.  Here is what I have planned:
  • Monday:  Baked spaghetti leftovers from the freezer
  • Tuesday:  Leftover chicken chili from the fridge
  • Wednesday:  Panko encrusted chicken tenders, rice, veggie
  • Thursday:  My parents are picking Matthew up from my school and since he has no school Friday, they are taking him for the weekend.  I have parent conferences from 4pm-8pm (Yes, 8pm!).  I will probably take some leftovers.
  • Friday:  I'm here solo, so a Bocca burger from the freezer sounds good to me.
I am posting this on my blog because that is how I will follow it.  When I write it down, I tend to lose the paper.

Review: Progresso Panko Bread Crumbs

This week I got a full size box of Progresso Panko Bread Crumbs in the mail.  Along with it came 5 $1.10 coupons and a recipe.  Here is the recipe:
1 pkg. chicken breast tenders
1/4 cup flour
1 egg
1 TBLSP. water
1 cup Progresso Panko Bread Crumbs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1.  Heat oven to 425 degrees.  Line baking sheet with aluminum foil; spray with cooking spray. (This makes for easy clean-up)
2.  In shallow dish, place flour.  Coat chicken with flour.  In another shallow dish, mix egg and water.  Dip chicken in egg mixture.  In another shallow dish, mix bread crumbs and Parmesan.  Dip chicken in bread crumb mixture.  Place on baking sheet.
3.  Bake 15 to 20 minutes, turning once, until chicken is no longer pink and coating is golden brown.  Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
**For extra crispy tenders, I drizzled with olive oil before baking.

These were WONDERFUL!  I have tried to make oven fried chicken before, but these were so crunchy.  I would definitely buy these bread crumbs.

Freebies

This week was a great week for me for freebies.  I got TWO $3.00 coupons for Kashi Go Lean Crunch, my favorite cereal.  CVS had them 2 for $6 this week, so all I paid was the tax!  Love it!  Then, in the mail I got a stick of deodorant from PSST and a box of Progresso Panko Bread Crumbs from VOCALPOINT.  Finally, I got my samples of Kotex.  Tomorrow I will post a recipe I made from the Progresso Panko Bread Crumbs.

Oh, and they weren't free, but a great deal:  I went to Walgreens twice today to get a gallon of milk each time for $.99 plus tax, so $1.01 for each gallon.  How?  I had 2 $1 Register Rewards from Trident gum.  Buy 2 Trident Layer gums this month and get a $1 RR.  I have used internet coupons and paid almost nothing for about 8-10 packs.

Show and Tell Friday

Today I am showing off two favorite dolls. The top one is an Eskimo doll my now-retired Air Force brother gave me back when I was in college. He got it in Alaska. The bottom doll is from St. Maarten in the Caribbean. I got her on a cruise 17 years ago.

Cats on Tuesday

Minnie, closer than you ever wanted-----but isn't she adorable?!
Lovey has taken a liking to my bathroom sink, but he prefers the vanity to Minnie preferring the sink.

Show and Tell: Cross Stitch

Today I am sharing some cross stitch pieces I did over 20 years ago, when I was in college. My father made the frames in the first two. I love how the rustic frames go with the subject. I loved the country scenes in these. I now have them in my foyer and living room. For more show and tell, go to http://www.romantichome.blogspot.com/

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for

  • my cats
  • a weeded garden
  • a son who cut my backyard
  • my Promethean Board at school
  • good kids to teach this year

What are *you* thankful for?
